THE ZEITGEIST ACADEMY IS THE PLACE FOR YOU

The Academy is a membership community where music lovers can can easily access the education, mentorship, and network they need to expand their musical identity and show up confidently in different musical spaces.

YOU CAN HAVE THE MUSIC OF THE WORLD AT YOUR FINGERTIPS.

Does the idea of having interesting musical insights delivered to your inbox light you up?

Do you want to meet incredible people who love music as much as you do?

Do you dream about walking into any musical space and feeling like you belong?

IF SO...

Musical communities can be silo'd.

Those who studied one type of music can be completely uninformed about other styles... because their programs didn't cover them.

Communities aren't geared towards mixing genres.

Sometimes even choir and orchestra members performing the same show are often discouraged from mingling.

Or, Boomers and Gen Z in the same family often loudly disparage each other's music.

DON'T LET THIS BE YOU.

THE ACADEMY IS DEFEATING MUSICAL SILOS BY TURNING GAPS INTO STRENGTHS.

No more confinement to a single genre. The Zeitgeist Academy empowers you to discover new musical spaces or immerse yourself in ones you've always been curious about.

We're saying, "I'm ready to try something new."

We want to walk confidently - and respectfully - into any musical space!

We want to be able to have real conversations with musicians in every corner of the room.

Members of the Academy are:

  • Music lovers who want to expand their musical identity

  • Lifetime learners seeking personal enrichment and cultural savviness

  • Ready to commit to being open minded and learning about new cultures and new perspectives

  • Determined to uplift and celebrate people who make music, regardless of what genre or style. No snobbery!

If this sounds like you,

THIS IS THE COMMUNITY FOR YOU.

If you're not confident in all musical spaces yet, and want a clear path to get there...

How It Works

1. Join the Zeitgeist Academy

Become a member of our vibrant musical community. It's only $5 for an entire year... that rate is ridiculous and will probably go up, so lock in your year now!

2. Explore the musical world in our live class cycles

As a member, you'll get to save your seat first in our live classes! Each class is a deep dive into a specific musical subculture. Starting with a Learn to Play the Blues class in February 2023, our expert instructors guide you through immersive experiences. Engage in comprehensive lessons, interactive projects, and live Q&A to bring the music to life!

3. Participate and Transform

Academy members are really, really cool! We'll have member mixers throughout the year where we'll learn about something cool and have time to mingle and meet each other!

4. Rub shoulders with real artists

Musicianship is never finished... and we love that! Our musical salons are meet-and-greet events with artists of all types, where they share what they're working on and give first glance at new projects. You'll get to ask questions and learn from them, and as a member you get a discount!

5. Elevate Your Musical Story

Your Zeitgeist Academy membership isn't just about learning music; it's about becoming a musical global citizen. We want our members to feel confident in all musical conversations, and comfortable participating in anything that comes their way!

This course is closed for enrollment.

What is your musical background?

Whether you haven't touched an instrument since middle school, or have a degree (or several!) in music, we meet you right where you are - and show you something new.

To help you expand your musical horizons and walk confidently into any musical space, we go straight to the source with our guest instructors.

Our classes are run by people actively participating in the subcultures we learn about.

No white tower disconnectedness.

No facts without context.

All music comes from somewhere, and we make it come alive.

Our classes aren't just lectures and workbooks (though we have those too)...

You'll actually be participating in a vibrant community.

One class, you may learn some belly dance moves. Then you might do a blues jam or write a contra dance.

Keep showing up, and we'll keep giving you fascinating new projects, along with rich content from instructors who live and breathe each subculture.

We Have One Mission:

TO HELP YOU BE MORE AWESOME

Meet Morgan

I am a performer, teacher, speaker, and anthropologist. After conquering my own misguided beliefs about what makes a “successful” musical career and finding my perfect musical journey, I specialize in working with adults who want to make music by removing the stigma that music is an “inclination.”

Dipping into my anthropological training to understand the cultural forces that create music and shapes our relationship with it, I founded the Zeitgeist Academy to educate and support people at all stages of their musical journeys to understand that all music is relevant, and everyone can make it.

FAQs

What ages is the Academy for?

We have designed this program for adults! And by that we mean our community gives adults a place to meet new friends with shared interests.

There are many incredible music programs out there for kids. However, it's invaluable for adults to have a sanctuary where they can feel comfortable being a beginner at something.

We also think it's important to model for kids that music is truly a lifelong journey.

Let kids learn the basics and learn to love music! We'll be here for them later :)

Is the Academy only for people with a musical background?

Nope! The important thing is that you love what we're doing here and want to be part of it.

I'm new to music - just getting started! Will this be too "advanced" for me?

If you're learning your first instrument or even just thinking about taking up music for the first time, you're in the right place.

Academy members range from experienced musicians to people who simply love music and want to be around musicians.

If you ever feel confused, we are just an email away.

I have a degree (or several!) in music. Will this be too "basic" for me?

Let us ask you a question - are you 100% satisfied with your musical journey?

Behind the scenes, we're musicians ourselves, with the paper to prove it and everything. But we found that just because we learned a little about a specific style, did not make us well-rounded or capable in other settings!

As a seasoned musician, you'll get inspired by peers who at your level or higher... in all sorts of different genres. Plus, you'll learn a ton from our instructors that wasn't touched on in the typical college experience.

You've been doing this musician gig for a while - which means you've been around long enough to know that there's more music out there than could ever be learned. But dang it, let's try!

I live outside of the USA - can I still join?

Yep! We're open to members from all over the world - that's the beauty of a virtual academy!

What happens after I join?

Great question! When you sign up, you'll get immediate access to some onboarding materials on your member site. We'll reach out soon after with news, updates, and more information.

Once you commit, you're IN!

Can my partner or family join with me?

Yes, but each person will need a separate membership.

I love saying "Kids These Days" before insulting their music! Can I join?

Look - tale old as time, each generation disappoints and pisses off the one before. You did the same thing to your parents. Quit it, and find ways to get inspired by the music kids are making today. We can help, but you gotta be willing.

And while we're talking about respect, #BlackLivesMatter, Trans folk rock, Drag Queens are the best, and we are committed to fighting racism wherever we find it. This shouldn't surprise anyone given what we do here at the Academy.

We're absolutely not saying we're perfect. We get things wrong and mess up all the time. But we're committed to doing the work and trying to get it right. Any musician knows that practice makes permanent, and we're committed to ethical sharing of culture (whether that means across the globe or between generations).

We are committed to lifting others up. We understand that in this journey we will encounter a subculture we just don't enjoy as much as others.

But when it comes to respect, we aren't flexible on this and curate this community to be inclusive and safe for all people.
